Game Week 13 Tips: Champions League Watch – Tuesday

Tuesday saw Liverpool squander a 3 goal lead at Sevilla, a slim Man City 1-0 victory at home to Feyenoord and a fightback full of character from Spurs to beat Dortmund 2-1 away from home. But what are the main takeaways from those games and how will they impact us in Fantasy Premier League terms as we head towards game week 13?

Liverpool

Roberto Firmino was amongst the goals as his side went 3 goals ahead and looked to have secured victory in their group, but a 93rd minute equaliser completed a defensive collapse that has been a key feature of their season so far.

Saido Mane was also on the scoresheet whilst Salah had a quieter day at the office. It was surprising to see Liverpool field all of their stars for the game considering they have such a big game coming up against Chelsea this week. Antonio Conte has a tough trip to navigate through on Wednesday but will be licking his lips at the prospect of unleashing Eden Hazard and Morata on this fragile Liverpool backline at the weekend.

A Chelsea victory looks very much on the cards but better than that, an open game is highly likely.

Man City

FPL Aguero owners were dismayed and probably not surprised to see their star striker starting this game but what was more surprising was the difficulty Man City had in breaking down the dutch side. A late goal from Raheem Sterling added to his impressive tally for the season but might have cast some concerns that this season will not be a complete walk in the park after all.

It does look very much like Guardiola has made up his mind concerning Aguero and Jesus playing together and unfortunately it looks like rotation will be the order of the day.

The South American pair did finish this game on the field at the same time but it an ideal world Pep would probably have preferred to pull of a direct substitution replacing like for like.

With the weekend trip to Huddersfield looking like it could be full of goals for the visiting side, it could be Aguero who again misses out. It’s a tough call but it is probably time to drop the Argentine if you still have him – as for Jesus, the same is probably true longer term but he will probably play this weekend from the start.

As for City’s other players, David Silva was rested once again in the Champions League showing his importance to the league campaign, whilst the same was true of Sane who looks like the top pick for GW13.

Spurs

Harry Kane looked a bit sharper in this game as did the majority of the Spurs team as a fulls strength side travelled to the Westfalenstadion and came away as Group H winners.

A home game against West Brom this weekend should be a much easier test than this tough midweek game and managerless WBA will be in for a tough time.

It might not be the ideal game to captain a Spurs player as we might see a reaction from the Black Country club but by the same token, this could be a whitewash.
