At the time of writing we are only half way through game week 13, but with game week 14 starting on Tuesday there is little time to reflect as we look to get our teams in order for the first set of midweek Premier League fixtures of the season.
Saturday’s FPL action was not as goal laden as the one before and with draws for Liverpool, Chelsea and Spurs and only a slim 1-0 win for Man Utd there is a real chance for City to pull further clear of a number of their main rivals.
Harry Kane managed a goal to reward those who put the faith in him and Salah and Hazard also registered points from a goal and an assist respectively. Watford blew Newcastle away in a game that they ran out comfortable 3-0 winners and Crystal Palace left it late again to register just their second victory of the season with goals from Loftus-Cheek and Sakho.
FPL GW14 Tips
We will add to these tips as Sunday progresses as we will be looking to the Arsenal and City games to provide some pointers as to team selections for both clubs in gameweek 14.
However, our first thoughts are here to get you thinking for GW14… as always – wait for Sunday’s action to unfold before taking transfer decisions.
GW14 offers some real opportunities for the top 6 clubs to score big with fixtures appearing favourable for all of the top teams. The toughest assignments have been handed to Liverpool and Spurs who have visits to Stoke and Leicester to negotiate with Liverpool likely to enjoy more success than Pochettino’s men.
Arsenal Vs. Huddersfield
Both of these teams are yet to play in GW13 (at the time of writing) so this could well get an update by Sunday evening, however we expect Arsenal to dominate this game and Huddersfield to concede a few.
The Yorkshire side has not performed well away from home this season and Arsenal have been excellent at the Emirates with 6 wins from 6 so far this term and 15 goals along the way.
Mesut Ozil is one who could boss this game, as of course is Alexis Sanchez but the latter is a budget buster. Aaron Ramsey could be a dark horse but we have concerns over Lacazette with Welbeck and Giroud both fit and Wenger likely to rotate in some way.
This can only be an Arsenal win and it will likely be to nil – so if you are using free hit or a wildcard then a Gunners defender should be a priority.
Edit: So Huddersfield were far from destroyed against Man City and actually looked pretty solid as they set up in a way that showed they had learned lessons from their previous encounters with top teams. The home and away form of both sides has to be taken in to consideration for this one and after Mesut Ozil missed out for the Gunners on Sunday due to illness, if better he could be a top pick. If Lacazette fails to score in this game he is very much dispensable.
Chelsea Vs. Swansea
This game has Eden Hazard written all over it and the Belgian looked excellent against Liverpool despite finding it difficult to get much change from the defence in the second half. Swansea offered very little at home to Bournemouth on Saturday and although they didn’t concede this will be a very different proposition.

Morata will be looking to pounce on any vulnerabilities and again the hope is that there is not too much rotation from Conte.
The Italian looks like he is preferring to keep his central midfielders fresh and Cesc Fabregas could well return to the starting line up. Willian is another in fine form and he could well get a start in this game – but you wouldn’t want to bet your house on it.
Again, a Chelsea defender is sure to return 6 points in this game.
Watford Vs. Man Utd
This game looks like it could be a season spoiler for the visitors who have been far from impressive in recent games, despite getting just over the line in recent league games (the visit to Chelsea aside).
Watford on the other hand are enjoying a fine start to the season and sit just 3 points off fourth place in the Premier League.
The only negative for the Watford going in to this game is that their home form is the sixth worst in the league as they have enjoyed a lot more success away from home. Man Utd are the opposite, with their best performances coming at home so this could go any way and we have not seen enough from the visitors to put too much faith in them being free scoring at Vicarage Road.
This is perhaps a fixture to avoid in game week 14 – especially when considering captain picks.
Man City Vs. Southampton
This will get an update later today as it is almost impossible to predict without knowing the lineups for Sunday’s game – one player who could be at risk is David Silva who has been an ever present in the league so far this season. He has not featured in any midweek games though so he could be one to be granted a rest.
Whichever striker doesn’t start Sunday’s game is likely to play from the beginning in this fixture so watch this space.
Edit: Sterling saved the day with another goal and Aguero started the game to the dismay of Jesus owners but they should be rewarded for this Wednesday night game. City have taken to grinding out results of late and they continued their unbeaten run with a slim 2-1 win at Huddersfield on Sunday. Sane disappointed but he could well repay faith in owners who stick with him this week as City will look to put on an impressive home display against a club in Southampton who had been very poor until this weekend’s demolition of Everton.
This represents a significantly more difficult test for the Saints and we could well see a reversal of the scoreline that Southampton enjoyed at the weekend. Jesus, Sane and Sterling are out top picks for this one.
Stoke Vs. Liverpool
Firmino was rested for the Chelsea game and is likely to replace Sturridge in this fixture, whilst Adam Lallana is now back from injury and could also get his first start and offer a cut price alternative Liverpool midfielder. Sadio Mane was also rested for most of the weekend game and could be set to start this one with Salah owners hopeful that the Egyptian won’t be rested for the trip to the Potteries.
Stoke collapsed after going 1-0 up at Crystal Palace and this will be a tough test for Mark Hughes’s side who sit just 3 points away from the relegation zone as they face a team in Liverpool who put in a very good performance against champions Chelsea.
Rotation is a big risk in this game with Liverpool having such good squad depth so it will be a cross your fingers type of game.
Leicester Vs. Spurs
Although Spurs have a tough test in this fixture they are the one top 6 side who don’t rotate the team too much. Kane, Alli and Eriksen are all pretty safe bets to start, as are the central defenders. Expect Trippier and Davies to be rotated so if you have these you are going to see this be a regular feature over the coming 6 weeks or so.
Kane is still a must have player in our opinion and he has been better away from home this season so you will want him in your side for game week 14. Spurs do have a decent run of fixtures coming up and although they have stuttered slightly of late, they will come good over the next few weeks.
The Best of the Rest
Newcastle looked shocking in GW13 and by contrast West Brom looked better and well organised. Newcastle need to sharpen up to penetrate the Baggies defence and it looks like the clean sheet might finally return to West Midlands team.
The Brighton Vs. Palace game looks set to be a good one after the visitors enjoyed their first victory under Roy Hodgson. This could be a tight game but Ruben Loftus-Cheek at £4.5m is starting to look like a steal after a goal and an assist in his last two games.
