Game Week 9 Captain Pick
With one day to go until the gameweek 9 deadline (7pm GMT Friday) it is time to start to turn our attention to who we are going to pick as captain for GW9.
With Chelsea, Man City and Man Utd players most likely leading the claims for the armband this week we take a look at our top three selections in order of preference to help you choose the best pick this week.
Captain Pick No.3: Romelu Lukaku
United labored to a 1-0 victory over Benfica on Wednesday evening in what was a drab affair by all accounts. A lucky goal gave the all three points but they will need to be a little more inspiring going forward when they visit Huddersfield on Saturday afternoon.
That being said, the home side have hardly been solid at the back in recent games and playing away from home might just play in to Man Utd’s hands here. They will need to recapture that attacking fluency that has gone AWOL for the last two games but this represents a good chance for them and they can’t afford to lose ground to City who will most likely win at home to Burnley.
Lukaku remains the top pick from this United side and if you have him and none of our other two picks then you should definitely consider giving him the armband. The Lukaku bandwagon has slowed down a little recently and it may have been premature to get off just yet – we could see a goal or two from him in this game.
Captain Pick No.2: Eden Hazard
The Belgian wizard was back to his best on Wednesday when Chelsea managed to claim a 3-3 draw at home to Roma in an entertaining game. Alvaro Morata also managed to complete 90 minutes in the game and looks set to return for the visit of Watford to Stamford Bridge on Saturday, but with Hazard looking so potent again and now just regaining 100% fitness it could be the time to side with him.
Incredibly, only 4.6% of managers have Hazard in their team and whilst he has done nothing in the league so far this season his time could be now. He played the full 90 minutes in a poor display last weekend but we fancy this to be the league game where he explodes to life and his confidence will be sky high after his midweek heroics. He will also improve for the return of the main striker.
Captain Pick No.1: Sergio Aguero
This is a tough pick and we have gone for a bit of a punt on Sergio Aguero. Vice captain pick is also crucial if you do go with Aguero incase he is rested again as he looks to complete his return from injury.
Having sat the last two games on the bench, Aguero could return in this game and if he does we expect him to pick up where he left off – which could be to the detriment of Gabriel Jesus. The Brazilian has been excellent since the Argentine’s injury and has allowed Aguero to fully recover – but Jesus playing most of the Sky Blue’s midweek win over Napoli could signal that it is his turn for a rest and in this case we expect a goal or two from City’s main man.
The other contenders include KDB who has been phenomenal of late, Raheem Sterling (who ever thought we’d be saying that), Sane and David Silva who has been Mr Consistent this season. The danger picks are probably Sane and Sterling – one of which could also drop to the bench instead of Jesus if Aguero does come back in.
This is another danger pick – but with risk often comes reward… and with only 8% ownership for Aguero he could be a massive differential – just make sure you are rock solid with your vice.
