No one wants to lose ground at the end of game week 1 and the biggest killer for any FPL team is choosing a bad captain. In my time playing Fantasy Premier League I’ve seen some pretty bad captain picks (not least the time someone in my mini-league triple captained Aguero in a game where he missed a penalty) and it is crucial that you start the season strongly in this respect.
With so many unknown quantities flying around ahead of GW1 our key advice is to stick to a player who is guaranteed to start and has strong pedigree. Opting for that Chilean whizz kid that your Grandad has tipped you isn’t going wash for game week 1.
This season we are mixing things up a little bit – we are still providing 3 captain picks (in order of preference) but this season only the 3rd choice captain is the free pick – the top two will be for members only. (You can still save 25% on membership using the code 25off here).
Game Week 1 Captain Pick No.3 – Sadio Mane
Sadio Mane looked like he was getting back to his best form at the end of last season and continued his record of scoring double figures in every campaign he has featured in in the Premier League. Mo Salah will be the most captained player this week without a doubt, but if you want someone who offers very similar threat at a cut price then Mane is the man.
Liverpool take on a West Ham side that has seen a fair few new arrivals and play under a manager in Manuel Pellegrini who is famed for being more attack minded than defence minded. We see Liverpool starting the season strongly and although this might not be a steam roller exercise, a couple of goals for Liverpool is certainly not out of the question.
We are backing Mane to get at least one of this goals. The content you are trying to access is only available to members. Sorry.
