With the Champions League action out of the way and most players coming through unscathed it is time to turn our attention towards the captain picks for game week 16. At the time of writing the Europa League Thursday fixtures are yet to be played but we don’t foresee them having too much of an impact on team availability for the weekend’s games with both Everton and Arsenal likely to field very understrength sides.
The impact of the Everton trip to Cyprus could be damaging to their efforts this weekend though as they will face a 4-5 hour flight back from Limassol in the early hours of the Friday morning.
With many parts of the UK likely to be blanketed in snow on Friday and Saturday lets hope we don’t get any postponements – although we rarely see weather impacting on Premier League games it might pay to have at least your vice captain playing somewhere down south.
We have three top FPL captain tips for you this week with the number one pick being reserved for our members as always.
GW16 FPL Captain Pick No.3: Eden Hazard
If this game had been taking place a few weeks ago and Hazard was in the form that he is now then he would probably have been the number one pick for gameweek 16 given the fixture. West Ham may have looked awful against Everton but against City we started to see the impact that David Moyes is having on this team.
We still expect a Chelsea win here but it is not likely to be an absolute runaway victory. Hazard looks at least equally as dangerous as Morata if not more so. He is pretty much playing as a free roaming second striker and his recent performances and points tallies read very well. 15, 8 and 18 are the total points he has scored in the last 3 FPL games that he has started and this could be another decent haul for the Belgian.
Chelsea did have a tough midweek game in which they drew 1-1 with Athletico Madrid and Hazard did play the entire game. Chelse have another away game against Huddersfield on Tuesday and we’d say Hazard is more likely to be rested for that trip than this one so he should be a fairly safe starter.
GW16 FPL Captain Pick No.2: Harry Kane
Harry Kane has just 2 goals in his last 5 games and he has not featured amongst our captain selections for a couple of weeks now. This could well be the week to give him back the armband though as Spurs face a Stoke side that just cannot keep a clean sheet (even with Jack Butland back between the sticks).
Spurs had a very easy game on Wednesday night and had the chance to rest many of their first team. They should be fresh and hungry for a big win in front of their home fans and we see this being a minimum of 3 goals for Spurs.
Kane should grab at least one goal and there is zero chance of the weather affecting this game so he makes an excellent vice captain and could well make the full captaincy if you don’t have our number one pick in your team.
