A pretty high scoring week in GW19 meant that most managers were given an early Christmas present from Fantasy Premier League and if you had kept the faith in Harry Kane then it might have felt like all your Christmases had come at once as many managers had opted to chop the Spurs striker.
With the blank game week still to come for Spurs those managers will now have a dilemma to face as GW21 is not far away, for those that dropped the striker it will probably pay now to keep him dropped until the double game week 22.
We are going to be keeping the tips brief this week and instead of covering the key fixtures we are just going to be covering the key players that we think should be in your thoughts for game week 20.
Our Top FPL Game Week 20 Tips
No sooner have us FPL managers got over a bout of Christmas day indigestion does the Premier League action return with 8 fixtures to feast on for Boxing Day. Newcastle and Man City have an extra day’s reprieve with their game on Wednesday whilst Arsenal and Crystal Palace do battle at Selhurst Park on Thursday. City, Palace and Arsenal then have an extra day to recover once again with their GW21 games taking place on New Years Eve with everyone else playing a day earlier.
Why does this matter you might ask?
It matters if you are focusing on Man City (and you should be) as it means they are perhaps a little less prone to rotation than they might have been if they were playing on Tuesday and Arsenal will probably field their usual starting lineup at Palace. David Silva returned to the City lineup and played the full 90 minutes and could be one player to be rotated in GW21 and it is highly likely that Pep will go with Jesus over Aguero who scored a brace at the weekend.
Chelsea looked a little toothless against a stern Everton backline and the Sam Allardyce revival heads to West Brom in GW20 in what could well be another clean sheet for the fleeting ex-England manager. Chelsea on the other hand face Brighton at home and the return of Morata should help their cause. Patience is running out with Hazard who still looks a threat and if he fails to return here he could be facing mass transfers out. We do expect Chelsea to win this game comfortably though and if you can find space for Morata he could be a very decent pick.
Burnley were disappointing against Spurs and they really missed Tarkowski in defence. He is still suspended and a trip to Old Trafford represents another stiff test. Man Utd threw it away at Leicester as Mourinho labelled his team ‘childish’ and he could ring the changes for the visit of Sean Dyche’s team – but we can’t really recommend too much on either side for this game.
Three goals in three games for Depoitre of Huddersfield and two home games against Stoke and Burnley to come offer plenty of hope for the £5.3m striker and he could be a steal at that price.
Liverpool face Swansea and the only concern for your Liverpool attacking players here is that they might be rotated. The Reds looked fantastic going forward at Arsenal and should have scored more than just 3 – Firmino now joins Salah and Coutinho as the main threats but Roberto does remain the most likely to be rested in this game. There is every reason to double up on Liverpool mids though and we see another 2+ goals for Klopp here.
Man City head to Newcastle and with the home side being very capable of defensive collapse it will be a fascinating game. The Magpies gave their all in a dramatic and impressive 3-2 win at West Ham in GW19 but we don’t see them coping with a Man City side that is full strength – if indeed it is. KDB should be nailed on to start having been rested for the last period of the Bournemouth game and he is our top pick along with Sterling for this game.
Crystal Palace will represent a very different test for Arsenal than Liverpool did and this could be a low scoring game. Sanchez looked much improved against Liverpool and is an interesting differential option but he still isn’t showing the form to warrant a place in your side, whilst Ozil could be worthy of a pick with 2 goals in his last 2 games.
Bournemouth welcome West Ham who themselves don’t play in GW21 so it isn’t the time to be loading up on their players, but this will be a game that the Hammers will fancy and we will again be looking to Arnautovic who we tipped last week and now has 3 goals in his last 4 games.
We will be bringing you the gameweek 20 captain picks on Christmas day so be sure to check back prior to the GW20 deadline – and of course our members will have access to ‘The Last Word’ on Boxing day from 10am.
