Game Week 23 looms and so does the decision for who to select as captain. The increasingly difficult choice usually makes or breaks a week when it comes to FPL and it is fair to say that last week we were devastated by our Harry Kane suggestion. The solid option of Eriksen returned a modest 16 points as captain whilst our third choice pick also registered a goal.

This week looks like a bit of a tester and with some relatively unknown quantities at large it will also no doubt require a little bit of luck. The arrival of Virgil Van Dijk at Liverpool might negate some of the Man City attacking qualities, whilst question marks remain over some of the leagues other top players thanks to the transfer window being wide open.

Here are our top three captain choices for GW23 – as always the number one pick is reserved for members only so be sure to sign up and log in to reveal our top selection.

GW23 Captain Pick No.3: Alexis Sanchez

The Chilean was rested for the most part as Arsenal slogged away to earn a goalless draw at Stamford Bridge on Wednesday night but looked hungry and showed a good attitude when replaced Lacazette up top for the Gunners.

Sanchez may well be on his way out of the club but Wenger would not have rested him in midweek had he thought he wouldn’t have him for selection in this game and with Bournemouth set to play their usual open attacking style of football, this good be the perfect game for Arsenal.

Sanchez has looked in scintillating form of late and has won back the hearts of some of the Arsenal boo boys who were giving him a hard time a month or two ago. Two goals and two assists in his last four league games might not be the most impressive stats, but this guy is either playing for a move or playing to leave on a high and this fixture is just too tempting to not mention Arsenal’s best player of recent times.

Not many managers have Sanchez so with just 3.1% ownership he is a real differential. If you are playing your wildcard this week then it could pay to put a big chunk of your budget in to Sanchez.

GW23 Captain Pick No.2: Romelu Lukaku

Lukaku has had a pretty bad press for the most part of the season and it seems a long time ago when he was in most FPL teams and romping away at the start of the season. Despite this, he remains the fourth best striker in the league in terms of points and at £11.3m is pretty affordable.

Lukaku has been worked hard this season with Mourinho playing him for the full 90 minutes in every game this season until his injury against Southampton. The following game he missed and should return this week somewhat refreshed and hopefully ready to break his 3 game goal drought.

Man Utd face a Stoke City side who look devoid of almost any Premier League qualities and defeat at the hands of Coventry City in the FA Cup last weekend just further highlighted their woes. Man Utd should be able to run away with this one and they need a convincing win. Lukaku should get plenty of change out of this Stoke City defence and even the usually reliable Jack Butland looks shaky between the sticks for Stoke these days – this could be a good day for Man United’s front men.
