With the majority of the FA Cup action now out of the way it is time to turn our thoughts towards the FPL captain pick for game week 25. The pick of Saturday’s action saw Spurs stutter and scrape a 1-1 draw at League 2 Newport and Liverpool crash out in a 3-2 home loss to West Brom – now who saw that one coming?
Other than Manchester United and Spurs, most of the top teams have fairly reasonable looking fixtures for the midweek GW25 clashes so there are a fair few captain choices available – and we will learn a lot from the aforementioned fixture as to just how much of an impact Alexis Sanchez is going to have on United’s attacking fortunes – but that game gets a watching brief for this week.
Game Week 25 Captain Tip No.3: Nacho Monreal
It’s been a while since we tipped a defender for captain selection and it’s also been some time since we suggested an Arsenal player as captain. But a huge performance from Monreal last week saw him register two assists and a goal and a further big League Cup performance against Chelsea showed us once again why he is dangerous going forwards for Arsenal.
A clean sheet is highly likely in this game and this should be a good game for Arsenal who will be going in fresh.
If you can’t handle giving the armband to a defender then there are plenty of attaching options for the Gunners with Mesut Ozil leading the claims.
Game Week 25 Captain Tip No.2: Mo Salah
Liverpool were dumped out of the FA Cup in a five goal thriller at Anfield at the weekend and the promise of defensive stability that Virgil Van Dijk was supposed to offer seems a long way from being a reality at this moment in time.
Despite a poor performance there were still goals for Firmino and Salah at the weekend after their sloppy defeat to Swansea and those two poor results mean this game against Huddersfield is very much a must win for Jurgen Klopp who will want to see his team get out of their current rut.
Salah and Firmino are the two key danger men for Liverpool and had the most shots on target in the FA Cup game – a statistic that is consistent through the course of the season.
Huddersfield may have a little more freshness for this game and they will surely adopt a similar approach to Swansea last weekend for this game – but if Liverpool can score early then this could be a slaughter. Remember, this Liverpool side put four past Man City only a couple of weeks ago and Salah is still a class act – a top choice for GW25.
