Game Week 33 might have two derby games but there can only be one captain choice as we head in to the final standard game week before the doubles and blanks cause even more confusion.

Mo Salah has been one of the standout captain choices of the season but after he limped off in Liverpool’s Champions League tie on Wednesday night (after scoring incidentally) it has thrown a huge question  mark over his eligibility as captain for the short journey to Goodison Park this weekend.

Salah by his own admission has said that he will be fine but Klopp has urged caution and full medical before suggesting he will start the game. We should know more as we get closer to the weekend but if he Liverpool forward is any kind of a doubt then just ensure you have a rock solid vice captain if you choose to captain the Egyptian.

We have three top picks for you this week and after last week’s top 3 pretty much scored in line with how we ranked them we are more than optimistic…

GW33 Captain Pick No.3: Sadio Mane

With the possible injury to Mo Salah and the upcoming return leg against Man City in the Champions League it is quite possible that captaining the Egyptian will not be the best course of action this week. Even if he is passed fit he could be rested in a game that the Reds should see out pretty comfortably.

Of course, this is a derby game so anything can happen but it is more likely that Liverpool will trounce their city rivals like Manchester City did the weekend before when they visited Goodison Park.

Sadio Mane is the next best pick for Liverpool after Salah and his recent form is excellent. 16 goals and 8 assists in all competitions is a good return for the man who played the first half of the season pretty indifferently and with 8 goals in his last 8 games he is a very decent shout for this game.

GW33 Captain Pick No.2: Jamie Vardy

6 goals in his last 8 Premier League games for Jamie Vardy puts him in a rich vein of form and when you add that to the goal he scored for his country a couple of weeks ago he and his Leicester teammates have every reason to go in to a fixture against Newcastle full of confidence.

Newcastle have not conceded too many goals against clubs in the bottom half of table but Leicester have their sights set on 7th spot and will go a step closer with victory in this game – which we think is highly likely. Vardy is the consistent performer for them and could just give enough differential to be worth a captain selection in game week 33 if you fancy a different option.
