With the Premier League title already being wrapped up with 4 gameweeks to go it seems like we are almost playing extra time when it comes to Fantasy Premier League but with a partially blank GW35 and a double game week 37 still to come there is plenty to play for.
The captain picks for game week 35 have had to be delayed this week due to the congested fixture list but not much has changed in our thinking since publishing our GW35 tips earlier this week. The announcement of Arsene Wenger’s departure may have come as welcome news for most Arsenal fans but this early news could signal a boost for FPL managers too with Arsenal’s home performances taking on a little more meaning as we hurtle through the final weeks of the season. Despite a disappointing result last week their star players still performed and obliged with a goal and an assist and it could prove fruitful to look to Aubameyang this week when trying to choose a captain.
We assess the top captain choices for game week 35 with our number one pick being reserved for our members.
GW35 Captain Pick No.3: Mo Salah
Mo Salah duly obliged with another goal in GW34 and took his Premier League tally to 30 in the process. It is therefore hard to fathom why he is only number three on our shortlist for gameweek 35, especially when you consider that Liverpool are playing bottom of the league West Brom.
There are two key factors as to why we are only selecting Salah as third choice for GW35. The main one is their upcoming Champions League semi-final against Roma on Tuesday – there could be rotation from Klopp to preserve his players for that crunch home game. Second place now looks unassailable and top four is all but secured so resting players for the trip to the Hawthorns could be on the cards.
Secondly, West Brom went to Old Trafford and scrapped for the lives with a 1-0 win over a disappointing Manchester United. They are all but down but stand in manager Darren Moore seems to have them playing for the shirt at least and this may not be the walk in the park that Liverpool expect.
Of course, all of this being said… if Salah does start then he could provide a good return.
GW35 Captain Pick No.2: Aubameyang
Arsenal have a big semi-final of their own to prepare for this week as manager Arsene Wenger looks to secure Champions League football for his successor next season via the Europa League trophy. He is likely to rest players for the visit of West Ham (who have been marginally improved of late) but Aubameyang should be immune to this as he remains cup tied for the Europa League.
The Gabonese striker has been in imperious form since joining the Gunners and this represents a good chance to add to his 6 goals and 2 assists in his first 8 Premier League appearances for his new club.
West Ham are unbeaten in their last 3 games and have only shipped two goals in that time but the Emirates will be rocking this weekend and Wenger should be fully supported now his departure has been announced. Auba is a very decent shout this week. The content you are trying to access is only available to members. Sorry.
